What You Will Do:

Under general supervision provides administrative and clinical support for Transplant Services. Assist Transplant Coordinators in assuring the effective and efficient operation of the program, while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with Medical System staff, referring physicians, and patients.


1. Schedules transplant patients for clinic visits and pre-evaluation testing. Registers patients into the UMMS registration system. Interviews referral sources to obtain demographic and insurance data. Inputs pertinent demographic and financial data in the transplant database. Interfaces with transplant financial coordinators to assure appropriate authorization of patients.

2. Schedules patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, consults, home health, social work and other patient care needs as directed by the nurses or attending physicians. Obtains appropriate insurance authorization and/or referrals for diagnostic tests and procedures.

3. Maintains an up-to-date transplant waiting list by coordinating patient’s activities with nursing staff. Tracks patients on the waiting list, assuring that all medical testing is current.

4. Accurately and completely enters pertinent information on patient visits, consults, and test results into the transplant database, as well as, appropriate notes related to patient’s care.

5. Provides clinical assistance during transplant clinic and/or exams. May obtain vital signs, perform venipuncture, change dressings, etc.

6. Audits paperwork and files on each patient to assure accurate and complete. Enters pertinent information on patient visits into the transplant database.

7. Observes and applies relevant hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Observes and promotes positive guest relations. Demonstrates courtesy and open communications with patients and referral sources.


What You Need to Be Successful:

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.


Certification as a Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) preferred.


Three (3) years of work experience in a clinical position in a health care setting such as an acute care hospital, HMO, or clinic performing clinical and registration duties preferred.


1. Knowledge of the operation of a personal computer and data entry for retrieval of patient information. Ability to operate routine office equipment.

2. Demonstrated ability to listen to patient information and translate it to written documentation. Ability to listen to patient complaints and resolve them using positive, proficient guest relation skills. Ability to use problem-solving skills in resolving various patient issues.

3. Ability to work independently and to respond effectively under stress
4. Highly effective verbal communication skills are required to relate to work with clinical and administrative personnel and to advise patients and visitors about transplant policies and procedures.

5. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
